Libyan Rebels Offer Free Fuel to Locals

Many residents of the western portion of Libya waited in line for hours at a nearby station to fill up their cars with free fuel since rebels have claimed control of the road.

"This queue is because Gaddafi stopped the Libyan people from getting petrol and today we received petrol after the liberation of the Zawiyah refinery and with 5 trucks we filled just one petrol station," said Mohammed, a rebel from the western town of Surman.

Rebels defeated Qaddafi forces on Friday night and captured Zawiyah, after already having taken control of they city’s refinery.

On the same day, following weeks of heavy clashes, rebels made another an important breakthrough in the mission to edge closer to Tripoli when they entered Zlitan, one of two major towns between Misrata and the capital.

Moreover, they secured Gharyan, Surman, and Sabratha, northwest of the Tripoli, with the latter ensuring the rebels’ control of a vital supply route to the Tunisian border.
