Video published on a social media website March 17 showed mass anti-government protest in the eastern Syrian city of Raqqa. Heavy gunfire could be heard in the background. Several people appeared to be wounded, and many can be seen clashing with armed forces.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has a network of contacts within Syria, said five people died a day earlier, including three who were wounded . One person was shot dead by security forces during the funeral of two people killed on Friday.
