In a bold statement against the Olympics’ alleged “support” for extremist Islamist regimes, topless feminist activists of a radical Ukranian gro
up bombarded central London on Thursday, the Huffington Post online reported.
Four women from FEMEN protested at City Hall close to Tower Bridge, their breasts exposed and their bodies painted with slogans, such as “No Sharia,” shortly before being apprehended by police.
The group posted a picture on their Facebook page, showing the five colored Olympic rings replaced with nooses accompanied by the slogan, “Islamism Kills A Generation.”
It said in a statement: “Femen demands the International Olympic Committee to condemn violence towards women from Islamist states.”
“Femen requires the states that apply the laws of Sharia be shut out of the Olympic Games, because of the inhumanity of these laws, which are in total contradiction with Olympic principles that are peace and philanthropy.”
“With the support of the IOC [International Olympic Committee], these Islamist governments use the participation of women in the Olympic games to hide thousands of victims and dead,” the statement said.
“If the IOC keeps flirting with radical Islam, new Olympic disciplines, such as stoning or speed raping will be added to the competition.”
London’s Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying security personnel attended the venue of the protest at 11:30am local time.
“Four topless female protesters were arrested under section five of the Public Order Act for disorderly behavior,” the police said.
“They were taken to a central London police station where they were given a caution and later released.”
