Algeria currently negotiates with Brazil to host the team in a friendly match scheduled for Nov. 14, president of the Algerian football federation, Mohammed Raouraoua, said.
“In the first place, the Brazilian FA was demanding a huge sum of $3 million (R 25m) to have them come here to play, but we were able to make them accept $1.5 million (R 12m). We are counting on our sponsors to raise that amount in order to bring the world’s most successful team to Algeria for the joy of our football fans,” Raouraoua said.
The international friendly would mark the 50th anniversary of Algeria’s football body, with the venue purported to be Stade du 5 Juillet.
The discussions will conclude in FIFA’s next meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, where both football associations will attend, Raouraoua added, which would determine the confirmation of the friendly.
Algeria has faced Brazil, host of the 2014 World Cup, in a friendly match in 2007, losing 0-2. The two countries also met in the 1986 World Cup final in Mexico, with Brazil winning 1-0.
