Louvre Abu Dhabi welcomes ‘Talking Art Series’

The Louvre Abu Dhabi recently announced they have acquired a new exhibit for the second edition of the famously known museum originally based in Paris. The exhibit is called the “Talking Art Series,” which will commence in October this year and will be on display in Abu Dhabi until June 2013.

The “Talking Art Series” will incorporate a detailed program of events accessible by the public. The events will show the significance of each of the pieces on display in artistic historical terms and how it contributes to the ever growing collection of the museum.

Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of TCA Abu Dhabi has said he hopes the new additions to the Louvre Abu Dhabi allows for the public to experience and interact with the museum’s content as they shape its collection and prepare for the opening.

The UAE Sheikh has said, “We are pleased to share with the public the vast array of works acquired for Louvre Abu Dhabi.”

The series will include a photography collection with Joseph Girault de Prangey’s “Ayoucha,” known to be the most ancient photographic representation of a veiled woman.

A few of the exhibitions to feature in the upcoming show are the “Bactrian Princess” from the end of the third millennium BC, Paul Gaugin’s masterpiece “Brenton Boys Wrestling” from 1888 and a well preserved pavement and fountain dating from the early Ottoman period.

Sheikh Sultan said, “The pieces have been carefully acquired to represent world civilizations and important artistic periods across time.”

The official opening of the museum is in 2015, but with these exhibition give visitors a taste of what to expect. The lectures for the “Talking Art Series” will be organized jointly by TCA Abu Dhabi, Agence France-Muséums and the Ecole du Louvre.

Henri Loyrette the President-Director of Louvre Museum has said, “The Talking Art Series is an essential step in building awareness of the future museum and its collection.”

Louvre Abu Dhabi plan to have another exhibition in April 2013 called ‘Birth of a Museum,” a version of this exhibition will also be shown at the original Louvre Museum in Paris.
