Marking his re-election victory, President Barack Obama tweeted that “all Sheikhs from U.S. States and counties wishing to present their congratulations are welcome,” after previously tweeting that he is to slaughter a sheep as ‘sacrifice’ in a true Middle Eastern-style celebration of his recent triumph.
Wait a second! He’s the American president, how is he tweeting in Arabic?
Of course, this wasn’t the real Barack Obama tweeting; rather, it was his equally famous Arab alter-ego on Twitter; @BarackObama_Ar. A parody account which is renowned for posting humorous material as its owner attempts to impersonate the American President in Arabic adding a Arab-Muslim flavor to his tweeps approach.
After President Barack Obama marked victory in the 2012 U.S. Presidential Elections, Arab Obama Twitter impersonator took on the obligation and duty to welcome the Sheikhs from various U.S. states and counties accepting all greetings and congrats.
The tweeps made by the person behind the account attracted thousands in the Middle East as they were drawn to the Arab transformation of the American president by the statements made through his account.
“I promise to divorce my wife, Michelle Obama, if I fail to deliver the requests of my people,” the tweep wrote in Arabic soon after Obama was reelected as the new president of the United States.
The “Arab Obama” also promised to implement Shariah and liberate Palestine from the Israelis.
The popular impersonator, who has more than 130 thousand followers but wished to remain anonymous, thought he will shut his account if the real Obama would lose election.
“A few hours away and the fate of my account on Twitter shall be determined- either I continue to tweet for another four years or I shut down my account.”
But to his surprise, the “Arab Obama” received happy greetings for being re-elected.
“Everyone is invited over to Obama’s place to celebrate the victory,” one tweep wrote and another “congrats to you, our leader… I don’t know how Twitter would’ve been without your existence. My regards to Sasha’s mother and the kids.”
Some even attempted to disseminate his news: “Re-elected President Obama preforms Friday prayers along with 10 marines to celebrate his new victory.”
The “Arab Obama” created his account on June 2011 and grabbed the attention of thousands across the Middle East. Other tweeps took the opportunity to ask the “Arab Obama” about politics among other random topics.
Twitter said the presidential election Tuesday was the most tweeted event in the history of U.S. politics with more than 20 million tweets. But the Arab version of Obama was also able to set his own record, with more than 200 tweets a minute.
