Workers from the Philippines will receive a monthly minimum wage of $400 if they are to work in Dubai, a business website reported Thursday.
The move came after a joint agreement between recruitment agencies in the Philippines and Dubai, Arabian Business reported Philippine Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz saying.
“I am happy to note that the new SEC (Standard Employment Contract) for HSWs (household service workers) to be deployed to Saudi Arabia has motivated other Middle East countries to follow suit and also formulate their own modes of giving our HSWs the kind of protection they truly deserve,” Baldoz added.
The agreement also aims to eliminate excessive fees charged by agencies for Philippine nationals when they try to find job placements in Dubai.
There are around 400, 000 Philippine nationals working while a further 1.2 million or so work in Saudi Arabia.
