In a campaign launched by Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood to convince citizens on voting for the constitution, a photo was used to represent the character of President Mursi against liberal leader Mohammed ElBaradei.
The campaign, “who will you support,” published a photo of the two leaders. In the photo, Mursi, on the right, is kissing the hand of the sheikh who helped him memorize the Quran, while ElBaradei, on the left is photographed kissing Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie on the cheek.
This campaign is part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s attempt to discredit the opposition and its leaders, who are calling for a vote against the draft constitution.
In a statement made by the Brotherhood, they encouraged citizen to cast their ballots in the referendum as it is their “national duty,” assuring Egyptians the judges will manage the referendum.
Egypt’s Judges Club, a group that opposes Mohammad Mursi’s move to claim sweeping power in a controversial presidential decree, refused last week to oversee the upcoming referendum.
The referendum committee was left with fewer judges than needed to organize the plebiscite. Votes will be casted in two days, Saturday Dec. 15 and the following Saturday, Dec. 22.
The Muslim Brotherhood said, through the new referendum, they will demonstrate to the world their capability of putting justice in affect as well as meeting all citizens’ needs to be included in the new constitution.
“The Assembly made a great effort in drawing up this important document, and put it to the people for community dialogue six times over the past six months, making sure it is as perfect as humanly possible,” the group said in statement.
After receiving the draft constitution on Dec. 1, President Mursi called for national referendum to take place on Dec. 15. The constitution, which is the document of the Jan. 25 revolution, is composed of 236 articles.
The Muslim Brotherhood said in their statement they are anticipating a large turnout during the poll.
