Man held in Abu Dhabi for trying to steal UAE secrets, speedy trial likely
A man has been arrested in Abu Dhabi on charges of trying to steal UAE secrets, a news report has revealed.
According to the Khaleej Times report, the arrest was made after a tipoff was received from a concerned citizen about the man’s behavior. The case is likely to undergo speedy trial, the report said.
He has been referred for immediate prosecution on charges of spying for a foreign entity. The man has also been charged with attempting to obtain classified information about the UAE.
According to the report, UAE Attorney General, Dr Hamad Saif al-Shamsi, said the public prosecution had received a notification from an Emirati citizen who felt that the man in question had been acting suspiciously.
After conducting their investigations, the tip off checked out and the man was detained. He confessed to the crimes and was promptly referred to court for prosecution, said the report.
