Israeli official: Assad will pay the price if Israel is attacked from Syria
An Israeli official warned against possible attacks against his country by Iran coming from Syria stating that Israel will make Assad pay the price.
Israeli Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz told Ynet on Monday "if (Syrian President Bashar) Assad allows Iranian or any other element to declare war on Israel from Syrian territory, he will bear the consequences.”
The Israeli official added "He is endangering his regime and his own existence.”
The minister said what is happening in Syria may be critical to the future of Israel and its security, adding that he hopes that things wouldn’t deteriorate into a full-scale war.
He said that Israel is determined to prevent the Iranian military presence on the northern border hoping that it is clear to the Iranians and Bashar Assad that such acts would be regrettable in the future.
Syria and Israel are still in a state of war, although the ceasefire in the Golan remained calm for decades until the war broke out in Syria in 2011.
The Israeli state has launched several raids on targets in Syria in recent years.
