The Punjab government announced that it is making progress in its investigations on Friday on the rape and murder case of Zainab Ansari, hinting that the murderer committed several similar crimes before.

According to Pakistani media outlets, Malik Ahmed Khan, the spokesperson of the provincial government, said in a press conference that “the evidence that investigators have collected until now suggest that the perpetrators will be caught soon.”

He added that the pattern of the case suggests that the perpetrator is a serial killer.

Khan said that the Punjab prime minister issued an order for the arrest of the policemen who fired at protesters in Kasur city last Wednesday following Zainab’s funeral. The gunshots caused the death of two people, while three were injured.

Khan said that the government will announce more details about the progress of the investigation within 24 hours, saying that a major breakthrough was made which will be revealed soon.

“We are very close to finding the suspect following an analysis of the evidence,” he said, adding that a few people were already arrested based on the evidence.

Eight children have fallen victim to similar attacks in Kasur city alone.
