The Saudi government decided to exclude Dutch contracting companies from implementing any current or future projects in the country, following offensive remarks against Islam by a Dutch right-wing politician, Al-Eqtisadiah daily reported quoting sources in the Council of Saudi Chambers.

The number of visas issued to Dutch nationals will be reduced drastically as a result.

The Kingdom will also stop all exchange visits between businessmen of the two countries.

The order was made after Saudi Ambassador to the Netherlands Abdullah Abdulaziz al-Shagrood sent a letter to Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, saying Geert Wilders, leader of the right-wing Freedom Party, had once again insulted Islam.

The directives will be circulated to all pertinent authorities. The volume of bilateral trade stood at 6 billion riyals in 2008.
