Veteran Saudi artist Abboubaker Salem died after a long struggle with illness at the age of 78. He was a celebrated Saudi singer, composer and poet. Salem achieved great success in the Arabian Peninsula and across the region through the concerts he performed at the various Arab song festivals. He composed songs for Arab artists such as Walid Tawfiq and Ragheb Alama as well as Gulf artists like Talal Maddah and Abdullah Ruwaished, and the late singer Warda.
