Comprehensive reforms on education are part of Saudi Arabia’s soon-to-be announced national transformation plan, one of the kingdom’s ministers said on Sunday.

On Monday, Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the 30-year-old son of King Salman, will announce the kingdom’s vision for the year 2030. Part of the strategy is aimed at weaning the kingdom off oil revenues.

“The plan focuses on a comprehensive package to develop the educational environment and keeps up with other development plans,” said Saudi Education Minister Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Issa, who was speaking during a visit to Egypt.

He added: “At the forefront, there are [plans for] comprehensive modernization of the curriculum and teachers’ performance and on the improvement of the school environment to stimulate development and creativity.”

He also said the plan will focus on developing teaching methods and improving the capabilities of teachers.

Women teachers, many of which live and work in remote areas, will receive more government assistance, Issa added.
