Sport is often defined as be an activity involving physical effort and skill in which teams or individuals compete against each other for entertainment. One of the most well-known sports competitions in the world is the Olympic Games. The ancient Olympic Games, which had been held from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD, were revived in 1894 in an attempt to improve the health and fitness of young people. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, responsible for this revival, believed in particular that the weak physical condition of soldiers was one of the main reasons for the French defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. He sought a way to change the situation by increasing the physical culture of the French. He also wanted to overcome national egoism and contribute to the struggle for peace and international understanding. The youth of the world needed to wrestle in sports competitions, rather than in war battles. He considered the rebirth of the Olympic Games as the best means to achieve these goals.
