Mark Zuckerberg takes Ice Bucket challenge, dares Bill Gates
Besides Gates, Zuckerberg nominated Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday nominated Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to take part in an ice-bucket challenge in aid of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The challenge involves pouring a bucket of ice cold water over oneself, and nominating three others to do the same within 24 hours or to donate to the ALS Foundation, or both.
Participants are encouraged to record the challenge and share it online.
Besides Gates, Zuckerberg nominated Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.
Zuckerberg was himself nominated by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who also nominated Senator Cory Booker and “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon.
Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook: “Finding ways to treat and cure ALS is an important cause.”
ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neuromuscular disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing one to lose control of muscle movements.
