Egypt’s musical syndicate bans ‘revealing’ stage outfits
The decision will bar performers wearing clothing deemed to be inappropriate
The Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions will ban “revealing outfits” worn by singers on stage, the body’s board decided earlier this week, according to local media.
The decision will bar members of the syndicate and singers with a permit from performing in Egypt if they go on stage wearing clothing deemed to be inappropriate, news website Elaph reported.
The decree was a result of a series of photos of female singers appearing in skimpy outfits that syndicate chief Ahmed Ramadan condemned.
By passing this decision, the syndicate’s board aims to “recommit to Egyptian values and traditions,” Ramadan said.
