A Pakistani man who was in the UAE on a tourist visa was charged with forgery in a hearing at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday, after allegedly defrauding a man of a 2.1 million Dhs ($570,000) fake car sale deal.

According to Khaleej Times, the 40-year-old man pretended to possess the documents of 43 cars, which turned out to be fake as they were not issued by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority.

The complainant, a 45-year-old man from Jordan, said that he had a history of purchasing cars from the defendant who worked at car showrooms.

“On December 11, 2016, I bought three cars worth 300,000 Dhs from his boss and gave him three cheques. He issued a handwritten contract, but kept giving excuses for not handing over the title deeds,” the newspaper reported the complainant as saying.

"On January 19, 2017, I had an agreement with the defendant's boss to purchase 36 used cars worth 1.63 million Dhs. They gave me a handwritten contract. I paid them 60,000 Dhs in cash and gave them a 80,000 Dhs cheque," he added. About four days later, he bought four cars worth 565,000 Dhs from them.

In January, 2017, he paid almost 1.61 million Dhs in cash and received the possession documents of 43 cars in return.

When he went to the RTA on the same day to register the cars in his name, he was told the documents he had were forged, the Khaleej Times reported.

The accused has been charged with forgery, use of forged documents, fraud and forgery of a government seal.
