The ongoing Syria peace talks held in Geneva have been so far “very disappointing,” Mark Lyall Grant, Britain’s ambassador to the United Nations said, speaking on the “Diplomatic Avenue” program with Al Arabiya’s New York Bureau Chief Talal al-Haj.
Both the Syrian government and the opposition have not yet reached any consensus in resolving the country’s worsening humanitarian situation, the diplomat added.
“They didn’t manage even to make progress on getting access to those most suffering inside Syria, in the cities like Homs and Yarmouk,” said Grant.
The envoy also said that there would be a need for the U.N. Security Council to “increase the pressure” to bring the warring sides in Geneva towards some kind of consensus.
