In industrialized countries, millions of people donate old clothes to charitable organizations such as the Red Cross. They do so believing that their donations will reach those in need. Some of these donations reach indeed people in need but not all of them; most of the donations are sold to companies involved in international trading using the old clothes, 60% of which ends up in the local markets of Africa, where there is a high flow of cheap clothes, forcing the production of local garment sector to decline.
