Saudi FM: Arab initiative is the basis for any future peace plan

Friday, 3 June 2016

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said that the basis for any future peace plan between Israelis and Palestinians remained a 2002 Arab offer, and urged Israel to accept it.

He said "Our position in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that the Arab peace initiative that was agreed by all the Arab states and adopted by all the Muslim countries in the special summit in the holy city of Makkah in late 2005 we look at this initiative as it is the basic reference for the peace process.

It has all the elements for a final settlement in order to reach a just, comprehensive, complete and lasting solution which ends with the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and eastern Jerusalem.

Arab peace initiative, since it was presented during Beirut summit in 2002, is on the table , and in contrary, every Arab summit since then until today affirms that Arab peace initiative became a solid basis for peace process ... we hope the international community can convince Israel to accept this initiative in order to find a solution to this conflict."

We look to the Palestinian cause as the Arab primary issue and we believe that finding a solution to it will contribute to strengthening the security and stability of the region and will pull the rug from under the feet of extremism and terrorism in the region.”
