IHH secured the release of two other Turkish journalists in Syria in May.
There had been no news from the journalist since Syria's al-Ikhbariya news channel aired a video of him a week after the pair went missing shortly after crossing the Turkish borders into Aleppo.

“Of course there was some exhaustion, but he was healthy and there were no sign of violence,” Nuran Ünal, wife of Cuneyt, said in an interview with Anatolia news agency.

Fourteen professional journalists have been killed in Syria since the conflict started there last year. Another 38 citizen journalists have also been killed, according to the international media watchdog Reporters Without Borders.

Ukrainian journalist Ankhar Kochneva had been held in Syria since Oct. 9 by a faction of the rebel Free Syrian Army, said the media watchdog.

U.S. freelance journalist Austin Tice, who contributes to several prestigious outlets, disappeared on Aug. 13 in a suburb of Damascus, it added.
