U.N. envoy ‘almost sure’ of Yemen ceasefire ahead of peace talks

The U.N. envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, said Monday he was “almost sure” a temporary ceasefire would be in place in time for the start of peace talk on Dec. 15.

“Everyone seems to be welcoming this idea,” including the government and rebel groups, he told journalists in Geneva, while conceding that a permanent ceasefire was a more distant prospect and would depend on the outcome of negotiations.
