The Muslim World League commended the ceasefire agreed upon between the Afghan government and the Taliban during the recent Eid al-Fitr holidays.
The secretary general of the league, Muhammad al-Issa, said that Shariaa law calls for closeness to God, and warns of conflict and division. In a statement, he added that the interest of the Afghan people and preserving the reputation of the Muslim country and its great cultural heritage should be the top priority.
The statement called on all parties to continue their meaningful and constructive dialogue, overcome their differences and build a future for the Afghan people.
The league also commended the statement issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz where he expressed great interest in the truce, and welcomed it. He also expressed his hope for the truce to carry on for a long period of time so that all parties can work to achieve peace for the Afghan people.
