WATCH: Bahrain building collapses due to gas cylinder explosion, injures at least 20
An apartment building collapsed in Manama on Tuesday leaving at least 20 people injured, Bahrain’s interior ministry said.
The collapse happened in the Salmaniya neighborhood of Manama and those injured were taken to hospital, said the statement on the ministry's Twitter account.
Perliminary information revealed that the cause of the colapse was a gas cylinder explosion on the second floor cause by two residents cooking. Investigations into the cause of the incident are still ongoing.
Over 60 officers and security personnel and 19 ambulances were at the scene when the building collapsed.
Police said the injuries were "medium and serious," without elaborating, and that 60 rescuers with firetrucks and ambulances responded.
The Bahraini Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, continues to follow up on the incident and informed the Ministry of Health to form an integrated medical team that includes various expertise from various government hospitals to provide treatment for the injured.
