Yemeni army closes in on Hodeidah port amid intense battles against Houthis
Yemeni armed forces tightened their grip on the Houthi-held coastal city of Hodeidah on Tuesday, after they cordoned off the city from the southern, southwestern and eastern sides, leaving the militia only the north as an exit.
The National Army confirmed that the legitimate forces are on the outskirts of the port of Hodeidah and are only about five kilometers away, adding that dozens of militias surrendered themselves and lay down their weapons.
The Houthis are losing control of several areas in Hodeidah after a comprehensive military operation launched by the National Army and resistance forces was launched in recent days.
Hodeidah, Yemen’s biggest Red Sea port and the only one under Houthi control, serves as the lifeline for the majority of Yemen’s population.
