Coronavirus: UAE death toll reaches five with 611 confirmed cases

The United Arab Emirates recorded two new deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to five, according to the health ministry.

An additional 41 infection cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 611.

One of the deceased is an Arab male, 48 years old, with preexisting medical conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

The second person is a 42-year-old Asian male who also suffered from heart disease.


The spokeswoman said the UAE has administered more than 220,000 tests so far.

Earlier in the day, Abu Dhabi's Department of Health announced new drive-through testing centers will be set up across the the UAE within the next 10 days.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited the country's first center in the capital on Saturday.

The launch of the testing centers is part of the country’s strict precautionary measures to help slow the spread of the virus.
