Syrian rebels kill director of Sednaya prison

Published: Updated:

The rebel Free Syrian Army has killed Brigadier General Talaat Mohamed Mahfouz, director of Sednaya prison, a top FSA official said in a video uploaded on YouTube.

The killing was “in response to the massacres committed by [President Bashar al-Assad’s] gangs and shabiha [thugs] in Bayda and Deirat al-Fadil, and in response to all those who have been martyred and imprisoned in Sednaya,” said Sadiq al-Amin.

The jail, north of Damascus, holds around 4,000 inmates, most of them said to be political prisoners.
