Video: Protesters tell Mursi to ‘leave’ after Friday prayer

Published: Updated:

Egyptian protesters shouted slogans against President Mohammad Mursi as he tried to leave a mosque in Cairo following the Friday prayers.

A video posted on the internet showed a woman blocking President Mursi’s car and trying to give him a complaint. Protesters in the background shouted “Leave, leave.”

Security forces from the Republican Guard scrambled to create passage for the Islamist President’s convoy.

Mursi has been heavily criticized for ignoring opposition demands and trying to amass various powers on his hands.

Critics say Mursi has polarized the Egyptian society, failing to seek consensus with his rivals. Turmoil and instability continues since the 2011 ouster of Hosni Mubarak. The Muslim Brotherhood says the opposition is trying to overthrow Mursi through street protests instead of ballot boxes.
