Saudi security forces shot and killed a man who escaped while they tried to arrest him in the village of al-Awamiya in the Eastern Province, the state news agency SPA reported on Sunday.

The agency said Morsi Ali Ibrahim al-Ribeh was wanted for involvement in “many criminal acts that targeted the citizens and the people of his hometown, including his participation in the shooting of citizens and security men which led to killing some of them and wounding others.”

“When he was surprised by the presence of the security forces, he tried to flee, but he was shot and injured by security forces. He was taken to the hospital and later he died of his wound,” the SPA reported, quoting an interior ministry spokesman.

The government spokesman said that 10 other individuals are in the wanted list and urged them to surrender themselves to authorities, saying: "This will be taken into account when looking into their cases."

“The Spokesman stressed that the security forces will continue pursuing the wanted persons,” agency added, noting that 10 others are on the run
The village of Awamiya, home to a predominantly Shiite population, was the scene of sporadic unrest last year.
