Iranian movie director Ismail Hidry was killed near Damascus, Iranian media reported on Thurday, two days after the killing of his colleague Hady Baghbany.

The filmmakers were producing a documentary for an Iranian state- owned channel about extremism in Syria.
Iranian media attributed the killing to ultraconservative “Salafist groups.”

Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Arkagy said that countries that send weapons to Islamist groups are responsible for the death of the filmmakers.

Iran is a supporter of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Groups of Iranian filmmakers who have visited Syria over the past two years have produced more than 20 films about the events in the country ,war- movies producer, Mortada Shaaban, told the Fars News Agency.

“The group of filmmakers was accompanying the Syrian forces who have made many achievements but came under attack.” he was quoted saying.
