Washington postponing a meeting with Moscow scheduled for Wednesday in The Hague proves that the United States never wanted a political solution to the Syrian crisis, Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said Tuesday.
“From the start, we doubted U.S. intentions at the Geneva conference. We always told our Russian friends: ‘we trust you, but we don’t trust the United States’,” Muallem said.
Washington “doesn’t want a political solution through Geneva because Israel doesn’t want a political solution,” he added.
The Geneva conference was launched last year to resolve Syria’s conflict politically.
In mid-August, Russia said a proposed Geneva II conference was unlikely to be take place before October due to a busy diplomatic schedule.
