Saudi Arabia donates $10m to Palestinian refugees fund

Published: Updated:

Saudi Arabia has donated $10 million to the Palestinian Refugees in Syria Fund of the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNWRA), according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The kingdom’s donation came via its Saudi Fund for Development and will support UNRWA’s efforts to deliver food and cash assistance, as well as emergency relief, health and education services to the Palestinian refugee population in Syria.

The UNRWA is a United Nations agency mandated to provide assistance to a population of some five million registered Palestine refugees.

The agency estimates that over half of the 529,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria are now displaced, either within Syria or in neighboring countries, including Lebanon and Jordan.
