U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi said on Wednesday that only a political solution will help end the "suffocating and dangerous" conflict in Syria.
His comments came amid talks with Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
"The Syrian crisis is suffocating and dangerous. It threatens Syria and the entire region. It is the most dangerous to stability and security" Brahimi said during the meeting in Jordan, according to Agence France-Presse.
"There is almost consensus that there is no military solution to the crisis and that a political solution is the only way to end the nightmare in Syria," Brahimi added.
His remarks come on the heels of the second Geneva peace conferencen ext month to discuss solutions for Syria. The prospects for the talks are already shrowded in setbacks and challenges after key opposition leaders refused to attend.
Brahimi was scheduled to also meet King Abdullah II, whose country is home to moer than a half million Syrian refugees.
