Iranian man sets self on fire at oil ministry
The man is now recovering after self-immolating after President Hassan Rowhani paid a visit to the oil ministry
An unnamed Iranian oil ministry employee set himself on fire after President Hassan Rowhani paid a visit to the ministry in Tehran, media reported Tuesday.
The man, whose identity was not revealed but is reported to be 58 years old, was rushed to hospital after setting himself alight on Monday, the reports said.
Ministry spokesman Akbar Nematollahi confirmed the incident but did not provide further details nor shed light on a possible motive.
The man is now recovering, Nematollahi said.
The incident occurred after Rowhani had paid an unannounced visit to the ministry, media reported.
An unnamed source at the presidency, quoted by the ILNA news agency, denied any links between the self-immolation bid and Rowhani’s visit.
“It happened after Rowhani had left the venue of the oil ministry,” the source said.
