At least four dead in Kabul suicide blast

Three days before elections, a suicide bomber killed at least four people in an attack on the interior ministry

A suicide bomber has killed at least four people on Wednesday outside the Afghan interior ministry building in the center of Kabul, a government spokesman said.

The blast also wounded several police officers.

The attack comes three days before Afghanistan’s elections in which the country will choose a successor to President Hamid Karzai and to decide the make-up of 34 provincial councils.

The election is seen as a benchmark of progress since the Taliban were ousted from power in 2001. Eight candidates are running in the April 5 presidential election, with a second round run-off between the two leading contenders expected in late May.
