Passenger found ‘heavily bleeding’ on Emirates flight

The incident took place on an Emirates flight from Dubai to Hyderabad

A passenger was found “heavily bleeding” on-board an Emirates flight from Dubai to Hyderabad last week, a spokesman for the airliner told Al Arabiya News on Monday.

“A passenger was found bleeding heavily in the restroom just before descent by cabin crew” on April 4, the Emirates spokesman said in a statement sent to Al Arabiya News. “Crew administered all the necessary treatment onboard. Upon arrival into Hyderabad the passenger was met by medical crews and taken to a nearby hospital.”

The aircraft, unable to be utilized for the carriage of passengers, was flown back to Dubai for maintenance, according to the statement.

“A replacement aircraft has been made ready and will arrive into Hyderabad at 1905hrs local time and will depart at 2000hrs local time. As the matter is now under investigation, Emirates cannot comment further on the incident," the statement added.

The New Indian Express identified the passenger as 30-year old Mohammed Imtiyaz. The newspaper said he "attempted suicide by slitting his throat and hands with a sharp razor blade."

It quoted Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as saying: "One of the air-hostesses saw Imtiyaz lying in the washroom of the plane in a pool of blood and alerted the flight staff. After the plane landed, the flight staff alerted the airport staff who shifted him to a corporate hospital for treatment.”
