Officers say Ambassador Jad Saeed El-Hassan was driving his car by himself Thursday when it hit another vehicle inside a tunnel in Seoul.
They say two South Koreans in the second car were injured and taken to a hospital. The officers spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department rules.
Other details about the accident were not immediately known, including what caused the ambassador’s car to hit the other vehicle.
A person at the Lebanese Embassy in Seoul reached by phone confirmed the ambassador’s death but refused to provide further details.
