Riyadh denies reports of resuming ties with Damascus

Riyadh shut down its embassy in Damascus in March, 2012, and recalled all diplomatic staff.

Saudi Arabia denied Tuesday reports that it was seeking to resume diplomatic ties with the Syrian regime.

A Foreign Ministry official said reports circulated by the Erem news network regarding a resumption of relations with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad were unfounded, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Riyadh shut down its embassy in Damascus in March, 2012, and recalled all diplomatic staff.

The Erem news network published on Sept. 7 a report indicating that Saudi Arabia sought to reopen its embassy in Damascus.
