Memorial service for British hostage killed by ISIS
Friends and family, including his widow Barbara and teenage children Adam and Lucy, were to attend the ceremony at the Muslim Heritage Centre
A memorial service will be held Sunday for Alan Henning, the British hostage beheaded by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants.
Friends and family, including his widow Barbara and teenage children Adam and Lucy, were to attend the ceremony at the Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester, northwest England.
The 47-year-old taxi driver had travelled to Syria to help Muslim colleagues deliver aid in a convoy. He was kidnapped shortly after crossing the border and his murder was claimed by the ISIS group in a graphic video released on October 3.
Ceremony organizers urged the public to "join together to remember an extraordinary individual and the need to continue his legacy of humanitarian aid work".
“This event is to remember Alan Henning, the work he did and pay tribute to the legacy he has left behind,” they added on their Facebook page.
“This is for people of all faiths and none to stand together, unite and continue the work.”
His murder has outraged the Muslim community in Britain, moderates and hardliners alike.
A memorial fund for his family has raised more than £25,000 ($40,000, 32,000 euros).
Henning was the fourth Western hostage murdered by ISIS militants since August.
