Arab foreign ministers denounce Swedish FM’s remarks against Saudi Arabia
Arabia top diplomats said they were “astonished” at Margot Wallstrom’s anti-Saudi remarks
Arab foreign ministers denounced on Tuesday statements by Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom deemed as offensive to Saudi Arabia.
“The ministers have voiced their condemnation and astonishment at the issuance of such statements that are incompatible with the fact that the Constitution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is based on Sharia,” a statement issued by the ministers at the end of their Arab League meeting in Cairo said.
“Shariah has guaranteed human rights and preserved people’s lives, possessions, honor and dignity. The ministers consider the comments as irresponsible and unacceptable,” the Arab League statement said.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates later summoned Swedish ambassadors in both Riyadh and Abu Dhabi to protest against the statements by Stockholm’s top diplomat.
