Egypt receives new advanced warship from Russia
The warship is equipped with surface-to-surface missiles, artillery as well as alarm and electronic warfare systems
The Egyptian armed forces received an advanced new warship from Russia on Thursday, Egypt’s military said in a statement.
“Granted by Russia to Egypt as part of mutual military cooperation between Cairo and Moscow,” the English-language state-owned Ahram Online quoted the country’s military as saying in a statement.
“It is a new addition in the process of developing and modernising our naval forces,” the statement added.
The Egyptian military dubs the warship - Molniya RKA 32 - as among the most advanced vessels in the Russian navy.
Molniya RKA 32 is said to be equipped with multiple systems including surface-to-surface missiles, artillery as well as alarm and electronic warfare systems.
The Egyptian army also said that a technical team was sent to Russia to receive training on how to be able to fully operate the warship.
The ship had previously visited the port city of Alexandria last year in August as part of a fleet that took part in the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal.
