Shiite cleric Sheikh Hassan al-Saffar has condemned attacks on Saudi police in the Eastern Province city of Qatif.

Al-Saffar said the violent attacks on security officers and police “do not represent the true values of people from the province”.

“We have to all work together in order to avoid further violent acts against police in the future,” he added.

His comments came during the Friday sermon at al-Risala Mosque in the eastern Saudi city of Qatif.

“Anyone who commits these acts of violence not only hurts the victims but also hurts the community they belong to.

A policeman was killed and another wounded in an attack on their patrol in the eastern Saudi city of Qatif late last month.

An Al Arabiya News correspondent revealed that the shooting came from an unidentified vehicle, killing Sultan Al-Mutairi and wounding his partner.
