UN's Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura briefed diplomats at the Security Council on the latest political progress on solving the Syrian through the Geneva talks.
De Mistura said there were several violations of the ceasefire in areas to de-escalate tensions and violence but said both sides of the Syrian conflict agreed to release a group of prisoners and detainees as arranged.
The Syrian envoy told diplomats on Monday that only the Syrians themselves are responsible for drafting their own constitution.
“The Syrians are the ones who must formulate their constitution, we are only here to facilitate,” de Mistura said. “But we are trying to combine the Cairo and Moscow platforms for technical discussions on the constitution,” he said.
“We hope to reach a united Syrian opposition as soon as possible,” he added.
A possible seventh round of Geneva talks on solving the Syrian conflict is planned for some time in June, de Mistura said.
