A new video has surfaced purportedly showing Major Roman Filipov, the Russian pilot who was in the plane that was shot down over Syria, screaming ‘this is for our guys’ after parachuting out of the plane, and blowing himself up with a grenade.
The video showed Filipov engaging in a gun battle with the fighters who shot down his plane. He had a Stechkin handgun in his possession which he used to fire 40 out of 60 bullets, killing two of the fighters, before pulling the pin of a grenade and killing himself.
The video contradicted previous reports that Filipov was captured by the fighters and killed. Credit cards, along with a number of debit cards and personal cards were found in Filipov’s name, originating in Vladivostok, the largest city and port in the Russian Far East near the Sea of Japan.
Reports said that Filipov has been nominated for the Kremlin’s highest honor, the Hero of Russia.
