WATCH: Protests reach heart of Tehran as many rally outside Rouhani’s office
Popular protests in Iran have reached the heart of Tehran as people protested in front of President Hassan Rouhani’s office in Pasteur Street.
According to HRANA, the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran, hundreds of poultry farm owners protested on Monday in front of Rouhani’s office to demand cancelling a governmental decision to reduce the price of chicken as the set prices do not even cover the production costs especially with the high livestock costs and the high prices of corn products and soy bean.
The owners called for governmental support to resolve their crisis.
Meanwhile, a group of employees from the Pars Ghou factory that produces vegetable oil protested against the social security’s decision opposing their early retirement.
The employees, who held their protest on Monday morning in front of the factory which shut down in the end of 2016 due to environmental pollution, demanded their early retirement and to be paid all their dues.
There have been other protests across the country during the past few days such as the truck drivers’ strike which has caused a fuel crisis in the country.
On Sunday, a group of teachers protested in front of the Shura Council and demanded cashing their late wages.
In Ahwaz, retired employees from a steel plant in the city held a protest in front of the pension fund building to demand their late wages.
In Gorgan, North of Iran, potato farmers protested in the city’s loading dock because their products were being sold for very low prices.
Drivers of small buses in Yazd did not work to support the truck drivers who have been on strike for seven days in a row.
Security forces had threatened to fine the drivers and called on them to end their strike; however their strike has been on despite all these threats.
