Published: Updated:

On Friday evening, angry Iraqi demonstrators stormed a center belonging to the Popular Mobilization unit militias in Basra as unrest continues to grip the city.

Sources told Al Arabiya English that some demonstrators burned the headquarters of the Badr Organization in Zubayr. The house of Hassan al-Rashed, the Iraqi Minister of Communications and a leader of the Badr Organization, and the Dawa Party office in Zubayr were also reportedly burned.

Demonstrators set fire to a number of government buildings and party headquarters on Thursday night.

The Iraqi government, as a result, declared a state of maximum emergency in Baghdad and imposed curfew in Basra.
