The trial resumed in Turkey on Friday of an American pastor Andrew Brunson whose detention for the last two years on terror charges caused a crisis in relations between NATO allies Ankara and Washington.
Brunson appeared in the court in Aliaga in western Izmir province, an AFP correspondent said, with the United States expressing hope he will be released in a major step forward for ties.
Brunson, an Evangelical pastor residing in the coastal province of Izmir, is standing trial in Turkey over terrorism charges.
