Israel army says shot down rocket fired from Gaza

Israeli air defenses intercepted a rocket fired by Palestinian militants from Gaza on Saturday, the military said.

Sirens sounded in the community of Kibbutz Nahal Oz close to the border but the rocket was shot down without casualties or damage, it said in a statement.

There was no immediate claim for the launch from any of the militant groups operating in the blockaded coastal enclave of Gaza.

It follows an upsurge in violence over the past week in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, including annexed east Jerusalem.
