Cristiano Ronaldo participated in Saudi Arabia’s unveiling of the first ever Esports World Cup scheduled to be held in Riyadh next year.

“An [honor] to meet again with his Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman and great to be part of this panel today discussing the future of esports and the launch of the first ever esports world cup,” he posted on X.

Ronaldo, who plays for the Saudi football club Al Nassr attended the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh on Monday.

He was seen shaking hands and laughing with the Crown Prince as he participated in the panel discussion alongside senior officials and global leaders in sports, gaming and eports sectors including FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Infantino attended the AFC Champions League game between Saudi’s Al Hilal and India’s Mumbai City FC held in Riyadh on Monday. He posted a photo on his Instagram with Saudi Arabian Football Federation President Yasser Al Misehal and former football legend Sami Al Jaber.

Saudi Arabia launched Esports World Cup

The Esports World Cup, said to be the largest of its kind, will include the most popular games in the world across all genres and have the largest prize pool in esports history, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

“The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering an unmatched esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry,” the Crown Prince was quoted as saying.

Aiming to transform Riyadh into a gaming capital, the tournament builds on the gaming passion widely seen in the Saudi youth population and on homegrown esports successes, including the first and second editions of GEMERS8, according to SPA.
